The Hoover Commercial C2401 Backpack Vacuum Cleaner with Accessories is a handy vacuum cleaner that stores all of its collected dust and debris in a backpack canister, allowing you to clean without any obstructions. The C2401 is lightweight, weighing less than 10 pounds. It’s compact, so that you can clean out narrow passageways, small spaces, as well as large areas with ease and comfort. The C2401 can carry up to 6.4 quarts of dust and debris, and you can monitor dust capacity with its clear dome lid – making it easy to know when to empty its collection bag. Use the C2401 with a shake out cloth liner or with a disposable paper bag insert. HEPA media filters, like that included in a C2401 back pack vacuum cleaner, eliminates up to 99.97% of particles 0.3 microns or smaller. That means allergens like dust mite debris, dust mites, pollen, and much more are trapped and locked away.

I am a skeptical jerk kind of guy, and most of the time I feel like these reviews must be done by drunk people. The review community has shown me that they must be all 7th graders. I was not on this backpack train like most of you. I am so angry with myself that I have not purchased a back pack style cleaner like this before. After a 30 second learning curve I was cleaning like Forest Gump when his braces fell off. “I was Cleaning!!!!” I cleaned everything and was looking for more. I just had a Detached Retina so I am on a lifting restriction. Once this lightweight powerful machine was on my back I took off. It is so easy to use and it feels powerful. I purchased some paper filter bags to clean with it as I was cleaning my unfinished basement floors. It cleaned and moved through the house so well it was amazing. Wow!! I am a pig. I am a divorced guy and I pretty much gave up on life and in particular cleaning. I am here to tell you that “I am back baby!!” If you are looking do not hesitate. Buy this now. I almost want to buy another one so I can just look at it. Seriously though just get it. If you are a Hoover representative and looking at this you can get in touch with me. I will travel the world and could sell this thing better than you ever could. I might even buy my ex one. Ok, that is where I draw the line. LOL

I am renovating a large house (tearing down walls, cutting wood, etc) and this little vac is a workhorse!
Compared to the price of other shoulder vacuums, this one is a steal! And, in my opinion, it’s one of the best! (I also own a ProTeam backpack vacuum, which is also great, but costs twice as much)

This is our 2nd Hoover backpack vacuum. We own a small cleaning business and it gets put to use 6 days a week hours on end. We have anywhere from 2/3 clients a day. Mon-Sat. And our first vacuum has been working great for 3 years strong. We decided to get a second one so we don’t have to wait for one another to get done. Lol! Let me tell you this vacuum is awesome. We have not had a single problem or issue with any parts or the vacuum itself. It’s comfortable to wear and has great suction power and easy to use and easy to clean out. Comes with an extension cord and many attachments. It gets the stamp of approval from this company.

Had it not been for Hoover’s abysmal customer service experience, I would not have figured out that there are actually two wand versions for this vacuum: one more conducive to commercial cleaning operations (C-2401), the other more for residential cleaning (C-2401-010). I originally purchased the former version, which arrived just a few hours later with 2-day Amazon Prime shipping (kudos, Amazon). However, the box came with the wrong connector for the attachments, causing them to be “unattachable.” Hoover’s customer service phone line closes early in the evening, forcing me to wait until the next day to sort this out. After waiting on hold for a small eternity, the customer service representative arranged for the correct (fingers crossed) connector to be shipped. However – Hoover has the audacity of taking another small eternity to get this connector to me on the cheap: 7-10 business days! Unacceptable! Since my dilapidated Dyson junk vacuum broke, the long wait would force me to either hire a cleaning service or suffer the dust.
Luckily, I found out about the C2401-010 version vacuum, which comes with a shorter straight wand and is more suitable for short persons. Hence, I ordered the Royal Dirt Devil Wand, Ry4000 C2401-010 1 1/4′ 2Pc Chrome Straight, which cost $33.76 extra (for a total of $232.48). The wand arrived the next day. After applying a piece of strong adhesive tape around the wand end that connects to the flexible hose, I was ready to put this contraption to the test. Let me tell you, it puts the suction power of my Dyson straight out to shames! The attachments were easy to switch out. I literally ended up looking for more dust to suck up! I am 5 ft 3 in tall and found wearing the unit on my back easy. It might get heavy after an hour, but with this much suction power, I won’t need to vacuum for that long. Walking into a small bathroom, I just took the unit off my back and left it sitting on the floor in the hallway or hand-carried it. The cord is 48 ft long and is really just an extension cord, which can be used for other operations. By the same token, it could be replaced by a shorter extension cord if that’s more convenient in a giving setting.
In summary, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this vacuum with the straight wand. Hopefully, you won’t have to deal with the poor customer service. In terms of other improvements, neither the manual, the cable management nor attachment tool access are optimal. I will probably sew up a little apron that can hold the attachment tools in place. Hoover, hope you are listening!

This vacuum is just the ticket if you have either dogs or a large house and get a lot of dust/fur. You can vacuum much faster than dragging around a machine. The cord is long and allows you to move quickly from room to room. There’s a floor attachment with a brush that you can also use on large flat surfaces to dust, and one that’s flat to glide over carpets. Other reviewers have mentioned not being able to get the attachments to connect, while the directions are of little help, in a couple of tries you can figure it out. You need to by and use the dust bags to keep the machine clean but you can reuse them by just dumping them in the trash (outside). This isn’t going to deep clean carpets like your Dyson, that’s not what its meant to do, but its really going to cut down on your cleaning time.

I deal with a ton of builders dust. Most people will never understand the hardships of finding anything that works to get it off any hard floor.
Starting with the cons:
Comes with a crappy S wand that you have to be a giant to hold and use properly. Easy fix order a 32mm straight wand or an adjustable one. When doing this you have to remove the hose adjuster out of the end of the it and stuff it in the black hose. To make it fit.
There is no easy way to clean bag with out getting dust all over your self. Do this outside.
It does not hold as much as advertised without losing suction.
Pros
Easy to use
Once set up with straight wand it actually works better
Makes the toughest jobs easier!
Does not take up a lot of space!
Longest cord on any vacuum I have ever owned most other canister vacuums you have to buy the extension cord.

First and foremost, this is a commercial vacuum designed for heavy duty cleanup in large facilities without a lot of obstacles in your way, not a typical household. That said, it’s a great vacuum as long as you keep that in mind. I chose to get it for use in my home which again is not really a fair thing to criticize it over but if you are looking to do the same, this info should help you.
The Good:
Excellent suction power.
Excellent for cleaning smooth flooring and low-pile carpet.
Super-long reach for getting dust bunnies and cobwebs out of those high corners.
The Less Good:
Don’t even think about it for pile carpet, just no.
The paper ‘bags’ are a hassle but seem worth it for ease of cleanup. Some folks claim you can use the paper bags alone but the unit is clearly designed to have the paper bag sit on top of the mesh bag, the main reason being to maintain suction power.
The attachments are actually pretty decent but the usability for a typical home is pretty terrible. The main thing is the aluminum tube comes in 2 sections but for almost no purpose other than I suppose ease of shipping. You can’t use half the tube with attachments, period. You can attach them to the full length of the connected tubes (awkward) or directly to the unfortunately short flexible black hose, there is no middle ground. So for getting into those really tight nooks to nab the big dust collections you’ll just have to dismount the unit and do your best.
So again, not a ‘home vac’ but if you want to use it that way like me, know what you’re getting.

I own a construction cleaning business, we clean approximately 40 homes per month in different stages.
Pros:
-These Hoover backpack vacuums are compact and easy to store.
– The suction is amazing (as long as you keep the reusable bags clean)
– They are light weight, some of my smaller employees can handle these without issues, and prefers them to the larger proteam brand.
– Hose is durable and flexible
– Extension cord is perfect length to reach through an entire house.
Cons:
– aluminum pipes bend easy at the tips causing them not to fit to each other properly (construction cleaning is rough on equipment)
– you get zapped on your back when you suck up sand, doesn’t hurt but it’s like static shock. It gets annoying.
– reusable bags are very expensive to replace so keeping them cleaned and washed is key for longevity.
Conclusion: I’ve created a very successful cleaning business on the back bones of these vacuums, I’ve relied heavily on them and they have not failed me! I have a total of 4, do not hesitate to buy one they are worth ever penny! Maintenance is key too.

I was worried at first since the Hoover has 8.5 amps, so I’ve been using it to clean small buildings. I have an old Proteam Vac that has high raw power, but I see that raw power is useless. The Hoover vac has very good suction and one of the best vacuum wands/brushes I have ever used. The wand is the best for commercial carpet. I found the brush easily removes dirt on heavy rugs. I vacuum about 4-6 hours a day and always had backaches with the Proteam vacs, also the Proteam vacs hurt my lower abs after a long period of time. The Hoover vac after 4-6 hours of use only left my back slightly tired which is natural for the period of time I vacuum.

It has great suction power, but as a trade off, the weight is a bit heavier than I expected. The length of the pole has a required learning curve too. If I were 2-3′ taller the pole might not be as much of an issue. The pole is 2 pieces and a shorter option would have been nice, especially since the pole is bent twice, where it attaches to the flexible hose and at the end. All parts appear pretty sturdy and I expect the unit to last for a while. Shoulder straps are wide enough to distribute the weight well over the shoulders and the velcro belt is nice too. I’ve played with it once. The noise isn’t too bad considering it’s close to the ears. I have hardwood floors and the easy swivel attachments work well, but I would have preferred a shorter width choice. The wide piece would be great for a large empty room, but most people like furniture and maneuvering around is a bit awkward. The long extension cord is nice and I love that it’s not attached to the unit, but an easier attach/release would be nice. So a short pole option and floor attachment would have earned this a 5th star. I’m ordering a straight pole from Amazon. It’s offered on the Hoover webpage, made by Dirt Devil and $10 more. Part and model numbers match.

Bought in Nov 2016 for our business cleaning houses. I use it at home too. I did a lot of research comparing backpack vacuums beforehand. I’ve used the $400-$500 Proteam backpack vacuums when I worked for another guy, and while those were great, I hated how the hose always swung around where you didn’t want it to go (on the Proteams). The Hoover’s quality is the same, if not better. I do like how incredibly easy it is to clean; just dump the filter into a trash can in your garage to avoid a mess. It starts to get hot on my back after about an hour which is fine–I’m rarely vacuuming that long anyway. It’s lightweight, and really comfortable! I think the smaller canister design (vs. the 10 qt.) probably helps cut down on weight, and I could never fill up either size canister in a day of vacuuming either. Love this thing!!
UPDATE: 9 months later–still love it. Dependable & haven’t had to buy a new filter yet!

I had been researching backpack vacuums for a long time, took note of the different styles (C2401 and C2401-010) and the good and bad reviews and decided on the C2401 (financially that was the one I could afford). It arrived quickly and there was not much to do to set it up. I did see reviews about the floor tools falling off and I started to have that problem but realized there is a circular piece of wire that fits into the end of the second wand and that wire is necessary to keep the tools attached. I have not had any problems with the tools falling off nor any problems with the wands not staying together. The electric cord is very long which makes vacuuming easier. The vacuum is not heavy on my back; it’s important to have the harness properly attached together so you won’t feel uncomfortable. My back does get a little warm from the vacuum. I don’t think the vacuum is that loud, no more than any other I’ve used. The vacuum comes with an adapter that I used to attach a different brand (Dyson) floor tool and while I’ve been frustrated with that particular floor tool, the power from the Hoover made that floor tool work better.
I would like to suggest that Hoover consider making a different version of this backpack vacuum with the metal wands a little shorter and the floor tools not as wide. It can be a bit challenging to maneuver around and under our furniture (yes, we have too much stuff). Also, I’d love to have a floor tool that can turn sideways so it can be used in narrow areas. Overall, I am very happy with this vacuum and I actually look forward to using this vacuum each time (3 times a week). If you have a small home or apartment it might be too much but I highly recommend this Hoover vacuum.

(Disclaimer: I really like vacuums. I don’t really know why, and no I don’t have a weird or inappropriate obsession, I just find vacuums fun). Holy guacamole! This vacuum is AWESOME. I bought this vacuum to use as part of a small cleaning operation I have going on the weekends. It has satisfied my expectations and then some.
PROS:
-This vacuum is powerful. I spent a good amount of time talking with one of the custodians at work about the pros and cons of different backpack vacuums. I landed on this one for its performance/price. This is not one of the high-priced commercial backpack vacuums but I feel confident that I am getting the same (if not better, in some instances) power and effectiveness out of this vacuum for ~60% of the price.
-The vacuum is versatile. The many attachments, the length of the extensions, the way the head swivels, all combine to provide an incredibly easy and thorough vacuuming experience. It is just as easy to vacuum ceilings and vents as it is to vacuum hard floors. One of my favorite applications is as a duster. This vacuum makes dusting certain areas incredibly easy (and I hate dusting). It obviously does not work well for dusting shelves full of objects, but the following areas are great examples: blinds and the part that holds the blinds (don’t know what it’s called haha), molding, vents, certain light fixtures, under and above cabinets, on and around washer/dryer, etc.
-This vacuum has changed my opinion about vacuuming stairs. Vacuuming stairs used to be a tedious, difficult, and frankly annoying job. This vacuum has taken what used to be a 10-20 minute job (depending on the staircase) and turned it into a 2 minute job.
-The vacuum design is actually a rather simple one, and as such cleaning it and keeping it clean are very easy. There are no difficult nooks or crannies to work with, and most parts seemed designed to last a long time.
-When worn properly, this vacuum is comfortable.
CONS:
-The vacuum takes some getting used to. Trying to get the vacuum on and comfortable takes time. I figure it’s a matter of trial and error. For someone not familiar with using backpack vacuums, it can definitely take some time to learn to navigate smaller areas differently. After a few minutes, especially if you’re wearing the vacuum correctly, you can forget that there is a relatively large object attached to your back. I have bumped into a few things this way (not a major deal, just something to think bout).
-This vacuum is not designed to clean carpets, and that is obvious. It is awesome at cleaning super-low pile carpets (like those in schools and offices), but anything above that is out of the question. Carpeted applications really require a beater brush and something with wheels, which this vacuum obviously does not have.
-This vacuum is NOT a wet vacuum. It is absolutely not designed to pick up liquids and they should definitely be avoided. (As a tip: the custodian I have become friends with has mentioned that pouring baking soda on liquids and then vacuuming up the baking soda works extremely well and helps to navigate around this issue).
Overall, the vacuum is amazing for doing what it’s intended to do! If you’re looking for something to make vacuuming hard floors even easier (whether it’s a commercial application or even a household application) then this is the vacuum for you. The fact that it is designed for commercial use means you can feel comfortable using it “outside” on porches, decks, garages, etc.

I love this vacuum! I bought it because my home has primarily hardwood floors and I wanted to make vacuuming less horrible of a chore. First of all, the cord length is outstanding~ I plug it into one central location of my home and can vacuum the entire upper floor and half the main floor before having to stop and replug. I will say I was a little clumsy with it at first and knocked into doors etc, but once I got the hang of it on my back I no longer do that. The vacuum does not ever get hot on my back, and honestly I vacuum 5,300 square feet so quickly now it is not a problem at all. It is very light and is easy to adjust over whatever clothing you have on. I can easily get to windowsills and hard-to-reach areas. The suction is outstanding. It has made my cleaning time a breeze!
I use the soft brush attachment on the wood floors just to be extra-cautious against scratches. I will say that it is not great on actual carpet. I have to push forward only instead of push-and-pull or the head of the attachment will fall off. It takes some muscle. I bought this vacuum strictly for wood and tile…I use a Shark Navigator with brushroll for the small area of my home that has carpet and that works much better for that.
If you want a fantastic vacuum for hard floors that cuts your cleaning time down drastically, this is the vacuum to get. I definitely recommend it!
Cody J Hunter –
I bought this vacuum because I have a small animal sanctuary and vacuum massive amounts of hair and debris daily. I needed something that would be quick and easy, reach high places and travel from room to room with ease. This vacuum met all of those requirements.
The things I loved about this vacuum are #1: the angle of the hose. It allowed me to reach places I can’t with a regular vacuum, like behind the water heater and behind the dog cages. #2: the LARGE brush attachment. I clean my walls weekly and this attachment was superb. #3: the long power cable. #4: Not having to drag a vacuum around. Trying to clean stairs while holding a vacuum was a nightmare. This backpack is awesome!
The things I hated about this vacuum are #1: the attachments don’t stay on very well. I’m too old and too fat to be constantly crawling under the couch or bed to retrieve the attachment, especially while wearing the backpack (It fell off 6 times in one room). This is a deal breaker for me to buy another one, especially since a simple redesign to add a locking clip would fix the issue easily. So frustrating. #2: it takes a bit of time to clean if you don’t use the vacuum bags. #3: I can’t figure out how to use the attachments with a shortened hose. It seems like the end connector only fits on the last hose link. (Please correct me if I’m wrong), and the last hose link does not fit tightly into the beginning of the connection.

First, I want to say everything about this vacuum is exactly what I wanted and expected, except the wand pieces are defective…and I’ll update review accordingly to how that is handled.
I was very excited to get this, bought it for myself before Christmas. We have mainly hard floors and flat carpet, and my old Dyson weight a ton and lugging that thing behind me when vacuuming drove me crazy. Very cumbersome, always fell over, dragged it into furniture, etc… The though of a quality Back-pack Vac was great for my purposes, because of the flexibility to vacuum large swaths, get into corners easily, move things without disrupting vacuuming, all the while dragging just a cord.
Its not for everyone, but if you are relatively active, fit, and want to get things done quickly, give it a shot. My first vacuuming was great. Great suction, easy to use, a lot of attachments. Its goign to take a few to figure out the most efficiently way to swap attachemnts during vacuuming, but like anythign, you need to adapt to and build up an appropriate operational work protocol.
Beware! One Major Flaw. The wand pieces I received, do NOT stay together. When pushing on carpet, the top wand piece slides 1/2″ forward into the bottom wand piece, and the locking pin unlocks and then the two pieces twist and come apart. Very frustrating if this is a design flaw. But if its an issue with my particular wand pieces, I am sure Hoover will honor a replacement wand. I am going to contact the manufacturer directly tomorrow to address this and we’ll see

I am not one to write reviews but this vacuum is fantastic !!! Seriously, like re inventing the wheel. It makes me think of all the times as a child walking through the airport lugging a huge square suitcase with no wheels, while watching the flight attendants whiz by with their suitcases on wheels… This is the same feeling. Why on earth are we pulling a vacuum behind us or trying to vacuum half of the stairs from the bottom floor only to find the cord or hose isn’t long enough. You then go to the top of the stairs and work down to the point you stopped at, This has a REALLY long cord that allows me to plug it in and go all the way up the stairs and do the majority of the kids rooms from the plug downstairs in the kitchen !!! The suction is FANTASTIC !!! If I had to pick a con, I chose the bag less version with a re usable filter. After vacuuming I have to basically get a paper towel and pull the dog hair from the edges of the filter. I think i would choose the version with bags, it would just be easier cleanup. That is my only con…..other than that , this thing ROCKS !!!!

I could not find a vac that would handle dog hair, I like to use canisters (w/bags) and wands, they worked well for me but didn’t last. I thought I’d give this a try, the reviews were convincing and I was getting frustrated looking. I bought it to vacuum my 1st floor tile. I have 4 dogs (shoot me now) and lots of dog hair. It seems to work well so far, but does clog. I do recommend getting the filters (their shape reminds me of coffee filters), especially with dog hair. I love all of the attachments that come with it and the long cord. I will update this in a few weeks.

I used to own a cleaning company and can’t imagine being without this tool. If you have hard surface floors and a lot of steps (carpeted or not) this is a must have. The price is reasonable and it’s very quality made. You’ll want to purchase the disposable bags that go in it to keep the cloth bag and filter clean. This product was developed with bad backs in mind. It actually makes you stand up straighter and it makes my back feel better! You can barely tell its on and it’s great having your hands free and allows you to move around freely. The cord is super long. I’ve cleaned large commercial spaces and have only had to move the cord plug in placement once. The cord is actually an orange extension cord so would be easy to replace. The handle is very long. I wish they made a shorter accessory for it for smaller spaces, but for the most part, it’s perfect. It has a strong motor and is quality made. I’ve used these for several years now commercially and they’re still running great with no maintenance. The drop in bags are expensive but you won’t go through them as fast on a residential use. You can go without them, but the cloth bag will need to be replaced more often. Filters, paper disposable bags and the cloth bag replacements are easily purchased on line. My husband demands to clean the floors now because he likes using this tool so much. You can see what is going into the bag which intrigues him and he likes how easy it is to sweep under furniture and the steps without having to bend over. If you accidentally sweep up something important, you can retrieve it easily.
Janet W M –
I purchased this to take care of my hardwood floors; I foster kittens so it doesn’t take long for there to be litter and sand everywhere. Sweeping daily is a chore and doesn’t get into all of the corners, but this does. It’s lightweight and comfortable, and the extension cord that came with it is long enough to get through the entire house. It’s light enough to hang on a hook in my closet and be up off the floor and out of the way.
One drawback: the instruction booklet didn’t explain very well how to link the floor attachment to the end of the hose, and it kept falling off. I had to take the time to YouTube some videos to see that it actually screws into place. If I hadn’t figured it out, that would have been a dealbreaker. It would be great to have the assembly spelled out in the instruction booklet. Great purchase though – I love it.

I’m not much of a review guy,But I had to say a little something about this Hoover.I love it… Pleanty of power, long cord, comfortble to use.I have a 3000sf concrete floor in my warehouse and I like to keep the floor clean of dust and in the past I have swept which creates a dusty space,I have used a shop vac which is the better of the 2 options.I know it might not seem like i big deal but dragging a shop vac around with a cord back and forth is a hassle.I saw this vac on Amazon and went for it.I know its more than a ordinary shop vac but it is well worth it.Everything about it is better and easier.you can just get to work and never stop till your done unless you have to move to another outlet. It saves soooo much time.I only used it for about 30 minutes or so but i love it.I hope it hold up to the abuse 1 hr at a time.I would buy again I just wish I did sooner.Great job hoover.
